🤝 At Horse Creek Academy, our leadership teams are in classrooms every day, teaching and learning right alongside our students. We believe in collective leadership — giving teachers voice, choice, and a seat at the table in shaping our school.
☀️ Because when teachers feel supported, heard, and valued, it shows.
And happy, empowered teachers help create confident, successful students. ✨

Even though today was an e-Learning Day, it’s still time for our Weekly Update. Be sure to check it out at the link below for all the latest news and happenings.
Link to Update: https://aptg.co/nBsdSn
💙 We hope everyone had a smooth and productive e-learning day today, but we can’t wait to see your faces back on campus tomorrow. There’s just something better about learning together in person.
👉 As a reminder, Horse Creek Academy serves families across a large region, and we know road conditions can look very different from one area to another. Please use your best judgment when it comes to travel tomorrow morning. As always, the safety of our students, families, and staff is our top priority.
🏇🏻 Thank you for your flexibility and partnership — we truly are better because of our Village.
See you in the morning! ☀️

🧊 Due to variable winter weather impacts throughout the evening and projected icy conditions extending into the day tomorrow, the Horse Creek Academy campus will be closed, and we will operate as an e-learning day on Monday, January 26th.
📝 All students were sent home on Friday with their paper e-learning packets, which will serve as their learning materials for tomorrow.
🛑 All after-school events, practices, and games are also cancelled for Monday, January 26.
🤠 Our scheduled spirit day for tomorrow, “Boot Scootin’ Spirit,” will be rescheduled for Monday, February 2, so don’t worry—those Western outfits will still get their moment to shine.
💙 We know winter weather in South Carolina has been unpredictable at best, and this decision is being made out of an abundance of caution. As a public charter school, we serve many families who travel from outside Aiken County and have longer drive times, so road conditions can vary greatly across our community. We are also thankful that this is the first weather-related e-learning day we’ve needed to use this school year.
👀 At this time, we will continue to closely monitor conditions to determine if any adjustments may be needed for Tuesday morning and will communicate with families if there are any updates.
💛 Thank you for your flexibility and partnership, and stay warm, it’s cold out there today!

❄️ We are closely monitoring the upcoming weather and will continue to do so throughout the weekend in coordination with local emergency management officials.
⚠️ Out of an abundance of caution, all students are bringing home learning packets today in case we need to shift to e-learning early next week. For now, families can simply keep these in a safe place over the weekend.
💙 At HCA, we believe in being prepared, staying connected, and taking care of one another. A decision regarding school for Monday will be made by Sunday at 3:00 PM. If any changes are needed, families will be notified through a robocall, email, app notification, social media, and our website.
Thank you for your flexibility and partnership. Stay safe and warm this weekend!

❗️After closely watching the forecast and following guidance from local emergency management, we’ve made the tough call to cancel this weekend’s Homecoming Dance and reschedule it for Saturday, January 31.
❄️ As much as we know winter weather in South Carolina can change on a dime, we always lead with an abundance of caution—especially when so many of our students will be driving themselves. Our top priority is making sure everyone can travel to and from campus safely. 💙
🎟️ All tickets that have already been purchased will automatically transfer to the new date, and tickets will remain on sale next week for any students who still plan to attend.
⚠️ At this time, it is still too early to make any decisions about school on Monday. We will continue to monitor conditions and stay in close communication with our partners and officials. We will update families as soon as we have any information that could impact the school week.
Thank you for your flexibility and understanding. We can’t wait to celebrate Homecoming together on Saturday, January 31, when conditions are safer and everyone can enjoy the night worry-free. 💙
And yes—winter weather loves to keep us on our toes, so we’ll continue to monitor the forecast as next weekend approaches and keep you informed. Fingers crossed everything cooperates and we get to dance the night away! 🪩✨

We are so excited to celebrate our very own Mrs. Angela Moore, 5th grade, who was the portable speaker raffle winner at the South Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics (SCCTM) Conference! 🙌🔊
Thanks to our friends at Renaissance, Mrs. Moore’s prize was delivered to campus, and it couldn’t have gone to a more deserving educator. Renaissance supports schools across South Carolina and is passionate about partnering with schools around assessment, MTSS frameworks, and future-focused growth.
🏇🏻 We are grateful not only for their generosity, but for their time spent learning more about Horse Creek Academy and exploring how they can continue to support our teachers and students.
👏Way to go, Mrs. Moore! Your Village is cheering you on — and now your classroom has great sound to match your great teaching.

— Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
🤝 This simple but powerful question speaks directly to who we strive to be at Horse Creek Academy. Through our pillars of service and connection, we teach our students that caring for others, showing up for their community, and building strong relationships are what truly make a difference.
💙 Today, we reflect on Dr. King’s words and the reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness and service can create a ripple effect far beyond ourselves.
#WeAreTheVillage

2016 Horse Creek… when our selfies were grainier, even the outside of our building wore a different set of colors, and none of us knew how big this Village was about to become. 🤝
🏇🏻 So much has changed since then — buildings, programs, people, and dreams — but so much of who we are is exactly the same. We still love to celebrate the big wins and the small ones, spirit days, parades, events, and cheering each other on like family. We were “the Village” long before we ever put a name to it.
💛 As you scroll, see how many familiar faces you recognize. Some are still here, some have moved on, all are forever part of our story. Every student, staff member, and family who walked these halls in 2016 helped build what Horse Creek is today — and that makes each of you incredibly special to us.
Once a part of the Village, always a part of the Village. 🐎💙

📖We are so proud to celebrate 4th grader Maddie Yapoujian and some truly exciting news from her world of creative writing! This fall, Maddie had a poem selected for publication by not one, but two national organizations — an incredible accomplishment for a young author.
📜 Her poem, “The One Who Invented Trick or Treat,” appeared in the Fall 2025 edition of A Celebration of Poets, a selective anthology that recognizes outstanding young writers from across the country (fun fact: it’s the same publication that first featured a fifth-grade poet named Taylor Swift!). Maddie’s work was also chosen for Magic Dragon, a longstanding children’s literary magazine devoted to nurturing creativity and artistic expression.
✍️ What makes this even more special? Maddie’s writing is completely her own — no coaching, no adult edits — just her authentic voice and imagination shining through. Seeing that voice recognized on a national level is a beautiful milestone for something she truly loves.
🎤 We’re also incredibly thankful to Ms. Willis for celebrating Maddie in class by inviting her to read her poem aloud. The cheers from her classmates and that moment of recognition meant the world to her — and you could see the confidence and joy light up her face.
🌟 Way to go, Maddie! Your Village is so proud of you, and we can’t wait to see where your words take you next.

We want to take a moment to share that we, like other schools and organizations, are seeing an increase in flu cases in our area. As always, the health and well-being of our students, staff, and families is a top priority, and keeping our community healthy truly takes all of us working together as a village.
Horse Creek Academy follows the school exclusion guidelines outlined by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. Students should stay home if they have a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, vomiting, diarrhea, a significant rash, or symptoms of contagious illnesses such as the flu, strep, COVID, or pink eye. Students may return to school once they have been symptom-free for at least 24 hours without the use of medication and are well enough to participate fully in the school day.
We also encourage families to continue reinforcing good hygiene habits at home, including covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands frequently, and avoiding the sharing of food or drinks.
We know it’s not always easy to keep students home, but doing so when they are sick helps protect everyone and allows our entire school community to continue learning and thriving.
If your child is out sick, please make sure to turn in your parent note or doctor's excuse to the appropriate staff member:
-Elementary: Becky Chandler, bchandler2@hcacs.net
-Middle: Bobbi Broome, bbroome@hcacs.net
-High: Jen Wright, jwright@hcacs.net
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our HCA Village healthy!

It really is the best way to stay on top of all things HCA; have a great night!
